I’m not always going to be functioning at 100%.
The Sunday Journal #03
When a new month starts, I often feel refreshed, like I have a new beginning and a fresh start to finally get my life together. Yesterday was no different. I got my 10,000 steps, spent a few hours writing and pondering, and I even smoked my pipe! The Midnight Orchard from Cornell and Diehl is delicious, by the way. But I also went over my calorie goal. I didn’t make the best food choices, but you know what? That’s okay! Not every day is going to be a perfect 100 out of 100, and that’s something I have to constantly remind myself.
Every time I miss a beat, I beat myself up and feel as though the day is done for. Like, I ruined one aspect of it so now the whole day isn’t in this perfect circle. It’s a bad habit, for sure, and I know that. I’m aware of it and actively trying to be better about that. I’m helping myself by reminding myself that just because one thing didn’t get ticked off, it doesn’t mean that everything else I did didn’t count toward something.
I’m always trying to be better and to steer myself in the right direction, but that’s going to come with some setbacks too. I won’t always be able to reach 100% because I’m not always going to be functioning at 100%. Being in a go, go, go mindset all of the time is not sustainable, and at some point you’re going to burn yourself out. If you don’t take time to rest, then your body will make time for rest.
August started out on a great note, despite not hitting all of my goals yesterday. The only thing I can do is strive to do better today, and tomorrow, and the next day. I won’t be able to reach my goals and become the person I want to be by not continually working toward those goals, even if I’m not always able to hit 100% of them each and every day.
Regardless, I’m excited for August; it felt as though July lasted ten years for some reason. I have plans to go off-roading this upcoming weekend, we have plans to go to a concert, and who knows what else this month will bring! Hello August; here we go!
